MAUNDY THURSDAY

MAUNDY THURSDAY BREAD & WINE INGATHERING

During the offertory at the Maundy Thursday Eucharist on April 17, we will invite offerings of bread for distribution at our Brown Bag ministry and wine for the celebration of the Eucharist throughout the year to be placed on the altar.

Wine must be a Taylor’s Chip Dry Extra Dry White Port that may be purchased at 67 Wine and Spirits.  Labels will be available to offer the wine in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving.

5:30 p.m. AGAPE’ MEAL in the Undercroft

The agape’ meal or “love meal” is a meal closely connected to the Eucharist that was shared by early Christians.  As we gather this night to remember Christ’s command to love one another, we conclude this simple meal of meatless soup, cheese, olives, bread, and wine with our entrance into the church for Eucharist.

7:00 p.m. HOLY EUCHARIST

From the Latin word “mandatum” (mandate), the liturgy on Maundy Thursday recalls for us Christ’s command to love one another as he loves us enacted in the washing of feet.  We strip the altar to prepare for the solemnity of Good Friday.  The repose of the blessed sacrament occurs in a separate chapel area.
